Day 1Arrival Day

Individual transfer by Flybus shuttle bus from Keflavik airport to your accommodation in Reykjavik. You may explore Iceland’s capital city on your own if time allows.

Day 2Volcano Crater, Fjords & Mountains

At 09:00, meet our tour guide and depart from Reykjavík Natura Berjaya Iceland Hotels. Travel west to the town of Borgarnes. Easy hike on Grábrók volcano crater in the middle of a greenish lava field. Further north visit Glaumbær, one of Iceland’s most beautiful turf house farms and folk museums. Continue along scenic fjord landscape and over several mountain passes until we reach Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. The overnight location at allows you to walk around the beautiful town of Akureyri.

Day 3The Capital of North Iceland, Lake Mývatn & Geothermal baths

In the morning, explore the town of Akureyri, also called the capital of North Iceland, and admire the panoramic view over the Eyjafjörður fjord.

Optional whale watching tours are available at 09:00.

In the afternoon, travel to Goðafoss, the waterfalls of the Gods. Then explore Lake Mývatn, known as a geological wonderland and for its abundant birdlife. See the strange lava formations at Kálfaströnd, the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir and the tephra cone Hverfjall. Finally, end the afternoon relaxing in the geothermal Mývatn Nature Baths with a fantastic view over the whole area.

Day 4Lava Labyrinth, Hot Springs & Travel East

In the morning, walk in the lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir, “the dark castles”, hoping to get a glimpse of the trolls who are said to live there. In the afternoon, visit the hot spring area of Námaskarð with bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. Head through the uninhabited highlands and moon-like surroundings to East Iceland. From June to August, the tour includes a detour to the powerful waterfall Dettifoss.

Day 5East Fjords, Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach

It’s a day to admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages at the end of twisty roads in the East Fjords and, on the route, visit an attractive stone and mineral collection. Then, in the afternoon, see Vatnajökull – Europe’s biggest glacier visible all over Southeast Iceland. We end the day with a stop at Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, exploring the extraordinary site and might see seals swimming in the arctic waters. A boat tour between floating icebergs is included in the program from May through October. You can walk on the black sandy beach (The Diamond Beach) where large icebergs get stranded.

Day 6Vatnajökull National Park & South Coast

Travel along the southern part of the glacier Vatnajökull and get a glimpse at Europe’s second-largest national park, which has Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment, and Europe’s largest glacier.

In the afternoon, a beautiful drive with many natural wonders awaits us as we head across the Eldhraun lava field, cross the sandy desert of the south coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls. Experience the unique Icelandic Lava Show where you get to witness and feel the heat from molten lava! Stroll along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara near Vík. In the small village of Skógar, there is Skógafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Continue to the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which plunges over the mountain. An exciting trail goes behind the fall – if you are prepared to get wet!

Day 7Icelandic Horses & Golden Circle

Explore classics today as we travel the route of the Golden Circle sights. Start the day at Friðheimar, where you learn about the Icelandic horse, its unique qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse. Later on, see steam from the Geysir geothermal fields as we arrive. There is a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur, “the Churn”, which erupts at 5-7 minute intervals. Continue to Gullfoss, “the golden falls “, a double waterfall that tumbles 32 meters into the Hvítá river and attracts travellers in summer and winter. Travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As we return to Reykjavík, we will take you for a short city tour to show highlights of the world’s northernmost capital.

Day 8 Departure Day

Arrival and departure days are to make your flight arrangements easier and to have a free day of leisure. The tour starts on day 2 and ends the day before departure.

GJ Travel provides airport transfers with the Flybus, available in the arrival hall at Keflavik airport.

In what language is the tour?

When can we see the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights season is from September to mid-April. We carefully choose locations to maximize your chances to see the northern lights with the help of a professional tour guide.

Are the Northern Lights guaranteed on this trip?

The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis as they are also referred to are one of the many natural wonders of the world. As a naturally occurring phenomenon, the appearance of the Northern Lights is notoriously difficult to predict any further in advance than about two hours before it happens. As much is dependent on solar activity, we cannot accurately predict when they will occur or how frequently. Every endeavour will be made on this trip to see the Northern Lights if it is the correct time of year to see the lights. However, this is not guaranteed. 

Can you assist with booking additional accommodation?

Off course, we can help you book pre/post-tour accommodation if you wish to stay in the same hotels as the ones we use on tour. We always have some rooms on an allotment for pre/post nights. If you would like to stay an extra day in Reykjavík before or after the tour, please contact our team.

What is the midnight sun?

During the summer months, Iceland gets a few days where the sun never even touches the horizon, ending in 24 hours of Daylight. This phenomenon is most visible around the Summer Solstice, June 21st.

I’m a solo traveller. Is there a single supplement?

A single supplement is mandatory for this trip if you want to have your own room.

What is the age range?

The minimum age limit for this tour is 8 years old, and we don’t recommend it for younger children. There is, on the other hand, no maximum age for this tour.

Are the flights included?

Flights before and after the tour are not included.

What is the suggested budget for meals?

Somewhere between 8.000 and 10.000 ISK per person per day is a good budget for lunch and dinner while on tour.

Are there locations to purchase food while we are on the trip, or must the meals be pre-packed?

We will make stops during the tour at restaurants, supermarkets and gas stations where meals, drinks and snacks can be purchased while on tour.

How much time is spent at each attraction?

We stop for about 40 minutes at each attraction.

The tour was a good way to see some of the beautiful wonders of Iceland.

I believe Peter has a wealth of knowledge about Iceland and he shared much of it with us. He was courteous, punctual and helpful.
Excellent driver.

The accommodation was fine – a place to eat, sleep and shower, no frills and don’t need any.

The meals met our needs. Would just suggest you correct the amount needed per day for lunch/dinner. Needs to be higher.

The coach had working WiFi, comfortable, lost of room, clean

Martina was excellent, fantastic and very nice, who explained everything very well. Took us everywhere she is the best guide who I have met, we like her very much. Martina has drived very well and safe. She is a good driver.

Some rooms were a little small.
Food was not a highlight. But we didn’t come for food and some places so isolated hard to find good food.
