General Manager

Biography

Even so, I am one of the bosses, you can just call me Renato. I am made in Switzerland, work in the travel trade and hotel management since the age of 16. Before moving to Iceland in 1998, I lived in Switzerland, the Caribbean and in Florida. It seems that I was infected by an uncurable travel bacteria and I am a curious world explorer. I travelled near and far – probably circled Iceland at least 30 times. These days I am travelling about 60 days per year around the world to promote Iceland and GJ-Travel; kind of a passionate Icelandic ambassador. Personal interests are travelling to the end of the road to see what’s there, hiking, photography, deserted places, islands, watching non-boring movies, eating non-spicy food and I have a total obsession with maps. I also like to look out for midnight sun, northern lights and puffins. My favorite time of the year is June, as 17th of June is the Independence Day of Iceland, 21st of June the sun does not set in Iceland (midnight sun) and 28th of June is my birthday. Maybe I need to admit that I like to talk a lot.

ICELANDIC FAVORITE

ICELANDIC FOOD & DRINK

Barbequed leg of lamb spiced just with garlic, salt and pepper. For desert fresh blueberries from the Icelandic mountains and to drink I am just happy with ice-cold Icelandic water from the tap

ICELANDIC PLACES

Everywhere in Iceland that gives me the feeling to be the first person ever to reach that location. The more remote, the better. When talking about more accessible places, then Thingvellir National Park and Veidvötn in the Icelandic interior comes to my mind.
