Northern Lights Exploration 2015-2016

Day 1, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday:
WELCOME to ICELAND (50 km/31 mls)
Individual transfer by Flybus shuttle bus from Keflavik Airport to a bus stop near your accommodation in Reykjavík where you spend the night. We provide you with ideas how to explore Iceland's capital on your own.
Day 2, Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday:
At 09:00 meet your tour guide who shows the group the highlights of Iceland's exciting capital. Then we head west. Borgarfjörður is known as the Saga Valley because of its many important historical events. We get a chance to climb the Grábrók volcano crater and visit Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring which produces 180 litres per second of water that is nearly boiling - 97° Celsius. Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls pouring from beneath a wide lava field. Barnafoss – the Children’s falls, is nearby with its own tragic tale. We spend two nights in Borgarnes, West Iceland. The afternoon includes a lecture about Northern Lights. After dinner, we step into the hotel garden in search of the Northern Lights followed by a hot cup of chocolate or tea.
Breidafjördur Fjord Cruise.JPGDay 3, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday:
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula, “the peninsula of the snowy mountain“, just out from Iceland’s west coast, like a long arm with a clenched fist at its tip, and is in many ways a microcosm of the whole island. A rugged mountain chain runs its length. We travel to the charming fishing town of Stykkishólmur for a cruise in the Breiðafjörður fjord. After a light lunch a uniquely Icelandic “treat“ awaits us at Bjarnarhöfn, where they make Hákarl - the fermented shark. Depending on road and weather conditions, we visit the fishing village of Grundarfjörður, a place with an impressive coastline and mountains, lakes and waterfalls behind the village. Jutting out into the bay rises one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland, Mt. Kirkjufell. On the way back to Borgarnes the guide gives you some practical tips on how to photograph the Auroras as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. Naturally, once darkness falls, we are out in the hotel garden to chase the Northern Lights and to soak in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs.
Day 4, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday or Monday:
Today we travel along the Hvalfjörður fjord. The first stop is at an Icelandic wool outlet store, just to see what they do with all those sheep! We continue inland to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We travel the Golden Circle route and see steam rising from the Geysir geothermal fields as we arrive. There is a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur, "the Churn", which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. The chef of the Restaurant Geysir invites you to taste freshly baked hot spring bread served with Icelandic butter, geothermally boiled eggs and herring. It is best served with a small glass of Geysir Schnapps, very cold – nearly freezing. On we travel to Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvítá river and attracts tourists and travellers in summer and winter. In the afternoon, you learn about the Icelandic horse, its special qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse, before we reach the accommodation in South Iceland. Tonight, step into the darkness and search for the elusive Northern Lights, while best enjoyed from a comfortable hot tub in the garden of the hotel, amidst the peace and stillness of rural Iceland.
Seljalandsfoss (3).JPGDay 5, Thursday, Saturday, Monday or Tuesday:
Today we travel along the South coast. At the Lava & Volcano Exhibition Center, we learn about geology and active volcanoes. Further east we visit one of Iceland's finest folk museums. This museum contains an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artefacts from Iceland's past and several turf-built houses. Nearby is Skógafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. In the afternoon we take a stroll on the black lava beach and along bird cliffs at Reynisfjara in South Iceland. We spend 2 nights near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the Vatnajökull National Park region, located in darkness and ideal for Northern Lights search.
Day 6, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday or Wednesday:
Today’s program is all about glaciers, ice and icebergs. We travel to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, and we explore the extraordinary site and might see seals swimming in arctic waters. You can walk on the black sandy beach where large icebergs get stranded. In the afternoon we visit the tiny turf church at Hof and spend time at Europe’s largest national park, which has Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment, and Europe's largest glacier. In the evening enjoy a film presentation about the Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky.
Vatnajökull - Glacial Lagoon.JPGNew: Optional Ice Cave Tour offered between November 15th and March 15th
Experience a spectacular crystal ice cave in Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull. It is like standing under a frozen blue ocean or in a frozen cathedral surrounded by millions of shades of blue. Deep under Iceland's massive Vatnajökull glacier, beautiful caves of ice are formed by rivers of melt water during the summer time. Too dangerous to visit in the spring and summer due to a threat of collapse, cold winter temperatures strengthen the ice and make exploration possible and safe to visit between November 15th and March 15th (subject to change). The tour takes about 2,5 hours in total - about 30-minute drive by 4x4 vehicle from the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and 5-15 minutes hike (one-way). You spend about one hour inside the ice cave. You need good hiking boots, warm clothing that keeps you dry from the dripping water in the ice cave. Minimum age is 10 years old. The ice cave tour can only be booked on day 2 of Northern Lights Exploration tour. You will have to fill in and sign an order form, once done a cancellation is not possible. Ice cave bookings have to be finalised with the guide by dinner time on day 2 of the tour. Bookings afterwards cannot be accommodated due to limited space. The price is ISK 23.000 (about EUR 210) per person; subject to change. Payment is due with the ice cave tour operator on day 6 in Icelandic Krona – cash only! The ice cave explorers meet their local guide at the glacier lagoon at 14:00 and will be brought back to the hotel after the ice cave tour, while the rest of the group continues the official tour program. The ice cave explorers will miss out on some of the official tour programs, as there is no time for everything, but the stop and visit at the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon are included for all group members.
northern lights . Iceland.JPGDay 7, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday or Thursday:
From Kirkjubæjarklaustur we head across the Eldhraun lava field to the village of Vík, where we make a photo stop. The black lava beach with high bird cliffs and pounding waves is very impressive. Further west we reach the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges from the mountain. In the afternoon we return to Reykjavik and have about 2 hour leisure time to explore Iceland's capital on our own, visit museums, do some shopping or simply rest after all this touring. In the evening, we get to soak in the famous Blue Lagoon. After an Icelandic farewell dinner at a local restaurant, we go on one last nocturnal tour to seek more Northern Lights. Around midnight we reach Reykjavík for one last night.
Day 8, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday:
DEPARTURE HOME (50 km/31 mls)
Individual transfer by Flybus airport shuttle from a bus stop near your accommodation in Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport.

Exploring South Iceland.jpg

Daily driving: Total mileage without airport transfer is about 1.585 km (983 miles) which is an average of 265 km (164 miles) per day. You spend about 3,5 hours per day on the bus, depending on road conditions, traffic and daily distances. On some days the driving might be longer than on some other days.
Extra costs for dinners to be paid at the hotels: Fixed 2-course dinners with fish, meat or vegetarian main courses are available at the hotels starting at ISK 7.200 (about EUR 63) per person per night. Note, that the country hotels do not offer a la carte meals and there are no other restaurants nearby. Paying for a 2-course dinner directly at the hotel is less expensive than to have it included in the tour package.
NOTE: Itineraries may be subject to change at short notice during severe weather conditions and certain outdoor activities/day trips may be cancelled during the winter season in Iceland. In these rare cases, where situations of force majeure apply, excursions/activities cannot be refunded but the local guides will try their best to find reasonable alternatives where and whenever possible.

NATURE FEES: There is a possibility that some of the natural attractions around Iceland might charge an entrance fee during the trip. These entrance fees are not included in the tour price and need to be paid by all tour members additionally on the spot when entering any of these natural sites. Locations, amount of entrance fee, form of payment and other details are not known at present and are subject to change.

NORTHERN LIGHTS: This program includes a special six-night Northern Lights Academy – which means that during 6 evenings there is a combination of presentations, lectures, a film and guided searches for the Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights. All countryside hotels in this program offer a Northern Lights wake-up call for guests that register for that special service at the hotel reception. The Northern Lights Exploration series are designed to spend 6 evenings in the countryside to maximise the chances of seeing the elusive Northern Lights, still the tour is dependent on weather and therefore sightings are not guaranteed. The Northern Lights are in the northern hemisphere from September through April but are only visible when the sky is clear and free of clouds. Like many of natural wonders, the Northern Lights are ephemeral – they may be visible, they may appear for a bit and then be gone (it is not a TV show that you can just turn on and off). But it is worth the patience which is much required. Because they are a winter event, you need to be prepared to wait outside while looking for them. It is best to dress very warmly, in layers, with good footwear, gloves, hats and whatever else makes you comfortable while you await patiently this truly outstanding event. For the best photos, we recommend using a tripod.

BOOKINGS & FURTHER INFORMATION: Either via our international tour operator network - see here
or directly by email and we process your booking by personal email communication. We will send you a confirmation and invoice. Payment is due latest 4 weeks prior arrival. We accept international bank transfer, Visa or MasterCard. In general, there is a non-refundable booking fee/deposit of up to 20% to secure space on the tour. Once paid, we will send the vouchers and travel documents. Unfortunately, we do not offer an online booking engine for this tour.

CANCELLATION: A cancellation fee of 20% of the tour price and accommodation will be retained by us for cancellations made from 4 to 8 weeks before departure. From 28 days until 8 days before departure, the fee is 50%. No refund is possible for cancellations less than 8 days before departure, or for no-shows, and a tour begun but not completed. The exchange of one arrangement for another must be agreed by us beforehand.

Dear Daina, I should just like to say thank you for a wonderful holiday to Iceland, although it rained the entire time I was there I thoroughly enjoyed it, everything was so well organised, from booking the holiday to my return from my holiday, which is so important particularly when you are travelling alone. So thank you once again and I look forward to booking my future holiday with you sometime in the near future. Thank You & Kind Regards, Helen Shimwell (booked through Baltic Travel, UK)

"Perfect! Wonderful" (booked through Nordic Travel AU)
We have had a wonderful week in Iceland. The arrangements all worked perfectly so a big thank you to you for fixing it up for us. The helpful notes provided by Gudmundur Jonasson/Baltic Travel made it clear that food was going to be expensive, which it was, especially in Hotel Laki where we spent 2 nights, so at least we were prepared! We also packed well thanks to the notes so we were ready for every weather and terrain. The guide (Antoine) was excellent and made sure that we are all able to make the most of our visit. We really enjoyed the trip - everything that was on the itinerary was covered, so we visited an amazing variety of beautiful places. I think we experienced most seasons - we had sunshine, rain, hail and snow! - but despite the cloudy forecasts, we had periods of clear sky most nights and were privileged to see the Northern lights on 5 occasions. My main reason for wanting to book the holiday was to see the Lights - and they were amazing - but I think that the scenery was so wonderful that, for me, it eclipsed the Lights themselves. We especially enjoyed the south coast with the lava beaches and huge chunks of ice sitting on the beaches, with views of the immense glacier. On the boat trip from Stykkisholmur, I enjoyed watching the crew trawl for scallops and sea urchins and the opportunity to eat them as Viking Sushi - an unexpected treat. Even more amazing was the sight of orcas swimming in the bay and a group of three white-tailed eagles sitting on an island until one took to the air, demonstrating its vast wingspan. It has been a superb experience - thank you again for all that you have done to make the arrangements work so smoothly and for enabling us to enjoy such a wonderful holiday. I hope that we will be able to make another visit one day. (booked through Baltic Travel UK)
2015 - 2016
Hello, My trip was wonderful and I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights too which was fabulous! A trip of a lifetime and one that I will never forget! So glad I booked with you! I will be recommending you to all my family and friends! Thank you ever so much! Kind regards, Jessica xx, booked through Baltic Travel UK
Hi, we had a great time thanks. The arrangements worked very well and as a bonus, we had mostly good weather. The tour guide and driver were excellent and we saw a great deal. The only other thing was that the program was very full and led to very long days often getting back to the hotel with no time to clean ourselves up before dinner. On a more positive note, the evening meals arranged by the hotels were excellent. I am pleased to say we saw the Northern lights most nights. All in all, we had a great time. Regards Keith(booked through Baltic Travel UK)
Hi  – I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful trip. The weather and sun activity weren’t very good on our tour for viewing the Northern Lights (saw a very weak display on 2 nights), but we saw a spectacular display on the extra night we stayed at the Northern Light Inn. The trip was well organised and our guide did a great job. It was a nicely paced trip with a good mix of activities. We absolutely loved it. Thanks again for all of your help setting this up. We will definitely recommend the trip and your travel agency to our friends. PK (booked through Iceland Adventure, USA)
Hello - We returned yesterday from our Iceland holiday and just wanted to give some feedback. This tour was excellent and exceeded all expectations. Even with almost constant rain and no real opportunity to see the northern lights (except for a faint green aurora one night), we thoroughly enjoyed the week. So much was packed into such a short time and we came away feeling that we have seen and done so much more that we thought we would. The driver and guide were fantastic and I cannot praise them enough. The hotels were in such superb locations and all hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning to Iceland one day. Thank you for all your help with organising this tour for us. Best regards Jean Ashby (booked through IcelandGuest Iceland)
We got back Monday night late. Had a really wonderful time. The weather was awful, but we thought that was just part of the experience. Did see a great north lights show (on the last night). We thought we were going to miss them all together. Our guide was wonderful. Thanks for all your help and for being patient with us. Thanks, Daphne (booked via Nordic Saga Travel, USA)

2014 - 2015
Oh my, the trip was fantastic! Iceland is devastatingly beautiful! The tour was just the right amount of activity and the people on the tour were all very pleasant and intelligent. The tour leader did a good job of 'herding the cats' back on the bus because everyone just lost track of time as we wandered through volcanic lava fields and glacier beds. I have recommended you and your company to about five of my friends and have passed along your brochures. We shall definitely be travelling with you again, perhaps to northern Iceland the next time. We had one spectacular night of viewing on Oct 2 that lasted three hours and was just breathtaking! My husband was literally jumping up and down with excitement! Thank you so much for following up and asking about our experience. Your customer service is exceptional! I'm sure we'll be in touch again soon....have a fantastic day! Cyndy, USA
I wanted to let you know that we had a really wonderful time in Iceland! The Northern Lights Exploration tour was really excellent! The itinerary, tour guide and bus driver were simply outstanding! Vanessa Kong (booked via All Iceland USA)
Dear Kristín, Now that we are back for almost a week already, I would like to tell you what a wonderful trip we had last week. Thank you so much for organising it! One thing I would like to point out in particular: the trip wouldn’t have been half as excellent without Nina. Thanks again for a wonderful experience! Best Nicola & Matthias
Simply marvellous. It exceeded my expectations that I had since I was a boy. Anna Lara was great, a perfect guide. Whatever you pay her - double it!!! Hotels were good given the locations and generally good food. The driver and bus were faultless and safe. (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
Very good value for money. Well organised and covered so many things in Iceland. Anna Lara is the best tour guide I have travelled with. Her knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm and sense of humour are excellent. The coach was comfortable and I always felt safe with the driver. He was always helpful (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
Weather fantastic - Northern Lights spectacular. The boat trip was superb. Special thanks to Hildebrand at the fermented shark farm. Anna Lara is a fantastic, very informative, very patient, very knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour. Together with the landscape, Ana is Iceland's greatest asset. Accommodations were very good and we even got used to the sulphur smell. I had fish every evening and soup each lunch, always delicious. Lots of choices at breakfast. Alcohol nowhere near as expensive as anticipated. The driver was a star. A relaxing drive - always there for us. Felt very safe. (booked through Baltic Travel Company UK)
Wonderful experiences provided and very well organised. Extremely well organised, informative and patient guide. Excellent driver, smooth and reliable (booked through Baltic Travel Company UK)
Good choice of sights to visit. Full program. Little time to rest. Well organised program. The guide was very helpful with her advises, informative and fun to be with. She was concerned to make sure we were safe on ice and rocks and the spirals rented were essential. Rather small rooms in some places but always extremely clean. The fish was cooked well and the soups were delicious but sometimes I had to wait a long time to be served after the other people. Valur was a careful driver, patient when some people were late and the coach was always clean. (booked through Baltic Travel Company UK)
Very good choice of the program with lots packed in. We could not have had a better guide, she was excellent. Very good food, though small portions. Excellent driver and clean bus (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
Good itinerary made even better by sunny weather and lots of Northern Lights. Excellent organisation. Anna was wonderful, informative and good fun. Valur was a safe driver, worked hard and the bus was comfortable. (booked through All-Iceland UK)
Fabulous time, fabulous weather. Northern Lights 5 days out of 6. A really enthusiastic guide that knew her stuff. Generally good meals and accommodation. Very safe driver. Felt very comfortable. (booked through All-Iceland UK)
Brilliant tour and so much Northern Lights. Thanks! Excellent guide. Hotel locations were excellent and we only had to step into the garden to see the aurora. Great choices of meals. Fantastic driver and very safe (booked through Mighty Fine Company UK)
Relaxing and stimulating tour.  What a brilliant guide. Good hotels, very tasty meals and very steady and patient driver (booked through Baltic Travel UK)
A full program. Couldn't have fitted more in and all very interesting. Great weather and aurora too. Anna was just excellent, informative and fun, friendly and approachable. Mostly excellent hotels. Good, fresh high-quality food, cooked and presented very well. Helpful and friendly driver. (booked through Mighty Fine Company UK)
2013 - 2014
Excellent program. Simply the best guide. All very comfortable hotels. Good quality meals. Very safe and helpful driver (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
Perfect weather, perfect auroras, excellent info. Good places to visit and some walks. Each time it was great, the next was even better! Excellent and well-informed guide with a good sense of humour. Hotels good enough for the purpose. Lovely and helpful staff in the hotels. Comfortable beds and hot showers. Delicious meals and good to try local dishes. Driver patient and reliable. (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
Hello, Our trip to Iceland was one of the best trips we have taken! We appreciate that we had wonderful weather and were lucky to see the Northern Lights on four of the eight nights we were in Iceland. Although the trip was billed as a Northern Lights adventure it was much more than that. We had the opportunity to see and do lots of things that gave us a real taste of the landscape and life of Iceland. Our guide, Anna Laura, was fabulous. She brought a broad experience of her life of farming, fishing, glacier guiding and knowledge of the history and culture of this amazing land. There were several aspects of the trip that we did not fully anticipate but worked out just fine. Although the temperatures we relatively mild given the northern latitude, the wind chill could be fierce and we were glad to have lots of layers and windproof outerwear. There was an opportunity for hiking and climbing particularly in some icy and treacherous areas that were more demanding than I anticipated. We were glad to have brought Yak Trax devices to attach to our shoes and our guide did have these for rent or purchase. These devices were essential. Anna did have good guidance about the potentially dangerous areas we encountered and she had an ice axe to clear the path when needed. This was more challenging physically than a regular bus tour but we enjoyed it. The tour group of 45, mostly Brits and other Europeans, were a very compatible group that really coalesced during our week together. The group included a fairly broad age range- I would guess late 20's to early 70's-all were ready for an adventure. Our bus driver, Halldor, was a man of few words but with prodigious skills as driver and luggage wrangler. The food was consistently good even the horse steak. The accommodations were a little spartan in some places but quite comfortable and well maintained. It was a trip of a lifetime for us! We would be happy to share our experience with anyone who is considering a wintertime visit to Iceland with the reminder our guide gave us several times, "You are having the best of luck with the weather." We are even curious about what Iceland is like in the summer. Thanks for your help in arranging the trip. Steve & Lynne, booked through Scantours USA)
The diversity of the country makes this tour attractive. The organisation was super. The guide Anna Lára paced her informative comments with the "stories of life" in the old and new culture. Food in Iceland is expensive - however, portions were adequate and breakfasts were very diverse. Coach extremely comfortable. The driver was most helpful and courteous. (booked through Nordica Travel USA)
Very good tour. The guide Anna was great, very knowledgeable, nice folklore stories and funny too. Accommodation standard as expected. Excellent food. The driver was very pleasant and kept the bus very clean (booked through Mighty Fine Company UK)
Excellent tour. Anna is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and funny. Clean hotel and reasonable for the price. Quite good meals but expensive. Excellent driver; lovely, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. (booked through Escape Travel Australia)
Very good and varied itinerary but haven't seen the lights. The guide was very amusing and knowledgeable. Mostly good hotels. Pretty good meals but a little expensive. A very nice driver and felt safe with him. The bus was kept extremely clean. (booked through Regent Holidays UK)
I typically self-drive to see a country and this was the 1st time doing a bus tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Met very nice people. Tour covered all key areas of Iceland and was very well organised. Would highly recommend it. All the reviews online about guide Anna Lára were correct. She was fantastic! Very knowledgeable of history and sights visited. Loved her animated personality. Very patient and willing to help answer all questions and requests. Hotels had great locations and staff helpful. All dinners were tasty although somewhat expensive, but I guess that's typical for Iceland. Breakfasts both at Fosshotels were great. At the other 2 hotels breakfast were ok and typical (would be nice for something like hot eggs, sausage, waffles). In regards to the driver, I always felt safe with his driving. Very accommodating to stop for pics. Answered additional questions when needed. (booked through Cruise Planners & in Iceland)
Very nice tour. Would be great if more time is available for hiking and walking around instead of museum visits. The guide was awesome. Very good story telling and great knowledge about Iceland and the environment. Hotel fine, and if all hotels would have a bath tub would be great. If wifi is available in the rooms will be excellent. Wonderful meals and excellent driver (booking through GJ-Travel Iceland)
Excellent tour - better only had nature cooperated with auroras. Perfect! Magnificent guide. Fantastic depth of knowledge on all subjects; great sense of humour. Loved her! Hotels good for the price. (booked through All Iceland USA)
Dear Sirs, I took part in the Northern Lights Exploration tour last week and I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I was impressed by the way the tour was organised to make the most of the daylight available at this time of year. Each day was busy and active without feeling rushed. I thoroughly enjoyed the expertise of our guide, Finnbjörn. He was endlessly fascinating, whether he was telling us about the geology of the countryside, the history of the area, the best way to eat fermented shark or his encounters with the hidden people and the trolls. Finally, I was reassured by the vehicle we travelled in - it was clearly built and equipped for anything we might encounter and Sigurbjörn our driver was an expert at his trade. I shall certainly be back another time to see more of your fascinating country. Regards, Peter, London, England
Hello at GJ-Travel, our guests are back from the Northern Lights Exploration Tour, starting 10.2.2015. They wrote a very nice email to say how very happy they were with the tour and the organisation – and praised especially the guide for being so friendly and qualified. Thank you very much for making their trip such a wonderful experience! Best regards Katja, Island Erlebnisreisen Germany
"Our guide was Petur Gauti Valgeirsson. Petur was very knowledgeable, always on time, well informed and enthusiastic. We enjoyed his company a lot. Everything was great, the Northern Lights Exploration tour agenda was excellent! All sights we visited were very interesting and beautiful" (booked through ITB, Iceland)
2012 - 2013
Dear Maria, I wanted to thank you again for coordinating our Iceland trip. We all had such a lovely time. Although a little disappointed that we were not able to see the aurora borealis, we were really enchanted by the beauty of the Iceland landscape. I also wanted to note that our tour guide, Anna, and driver, Valur, were absolutely fantastic. We all had such confidence in Valur's driving, despite the very icy and windy conditions, and Anna was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her guidance and wonderful stories she told us throughout the trip. We felt that we were always in good hands with both of them leading us. This was a trip that I would highly recommend to all my friends, and I’m looking forward to coming back to Iceland! Best, Yuka (booked through Nordic Visitor Iceland)
Hello, My friend Alison and I wanted to say how fabulous our tour was. We enjoyed every minute of the packed itinerary and the tour guide, Martina, was brilliant. Her passion for the country made the tour even more fantastic than it already was. We were impressed by the efficiency of both Baltic Travel Company and the Icelandic tour company. We were also lucky enough to see the northern lights really well on two different nights...amazing! Thank you, Hilary. Booked through Baltic Travel UK
Excellent trip. Fabulous understanding and explanation of the science of the auroras, and the history of the land and people! 5 Star of Scandinavia, USA

Great trip. One of the best guides I have ever seen. Breakfast very good. Finland Society Travel Ltd
Fantastic tour. So many beautiful places. Very busy program but everything was worth it. A very nice guide who knows a lot and talks about fun facts as well. Makes jokes and cares for the group. Hotels: clean and nice rooms, too bad internet is not everywhere included for the price. The people who worked there were nice. Ijsland Specialist, Holland
Excellent trip, brilliant and knowledgeable guide, general good hotels and meals, excellent driver. Baltic Travel UK
Enjoyable trip with a lot of tour program. Very knowledgeable guide who has given us more insight into Icelandic culture, people, politics and religion. Thanks! Service in hotels good, but not all hotels have an elevator. Enjoyed the food. The driver was good and taking us to all the sights safely. Voyage Prive - Regent Holidays UK
Very good and smooth trip. Great guide and driver. Good food, but would suggest including dinner in the tour price, as there wasn't much alternative. Regent Holidays UK
Excellent mix of information and sightseeing. The guide was very good, helpful and informative. Went the extra mile to make our trip trouble-free. Basic hotels as advertised, but clean and comfortable. Helpful staff. Limited choice of set dinner menus; that said - good quality both with breakfast and dinner. Very competent driver - thank you. Voyage Prive - Regent Holidays UK
Well organised tour. The days were full - lots packed into each day but not too tiring. Very informative guide and excellent English. Comfortable & clean hotels, but some rooms rather small. Meals were all very tasty. Very good and safe driver. Voyage Prive - Regent Holidays UK
We are back in Finland. We were so happy with the tour. 10 points for that! The tour guide was excellent! Booked via Ishestar, Reykjavik
My wife and I were on your Northern Lights Exploration Tour from 14th-21st October and we just wanted to thank you for a wonderful holiday. Anna was the perfect guide: enthusiastic, efficient, caring and full of fascinating information and stories about Iceland. Siggi was the perfect driver who never gave us a nervous moment and acted above and beyond the call of duty when he produced his guitar and sang Icelandic songs for our entertainment. The group was a very friendly mix of nationalities and ages. There has been a lot of sharing of photos via the internet since our return home. We were very lucky with the weather and the lights appeared on five nights, but we would still have had a great time if we hadn't seen the lights at all. We'll be returning! Barry & Cheryl Burton
Well, we are home and just about recovered from what I can only describe as a fantastic holiday. The Northern Light Explorer Tour to Iceland (14 -21 Oct) was an unbelievable success and I would thoroughly recommend to all. Firstly I would like to thank yourself as a representative of Baltic Travel. Booking was easy, you gave clear, concise instructions and help where we needed it, including tips on what we may need to take with us etc. The logistics of the holiday were perfect. Thank you. The tour operator that you use (Gudmundur Jonasson Travel) was perfect, extremely professional, reliable and most helpful. We had a wonderful guide (Anna), who moved the itinerary around to ensure we had the most enjoyment out of the holiday. We had a totally mixed group from all over the world, of all ages and I am sure that a lot of new friends for life were made. We have already spread the word amongst family, friends and work colleagues of what a fantastic experience we have had and thoroughly recommend to all Many Thanks, Martin and Penny Jones, booked via Baltic Tours UK
