Landmannalaugar and Saga ValleyTo arrive in the area of Landmannalaugar we need to drive by the roots of the Mt. Hekla which is the most active volcano in Iceland. Hekla was believed to be the gateway to hell during the Middle Ages and the last eruptions were in February 2000.

We pass the lava and pumice covered landscape that Mt. Hekla has created around itself the last thousands of years. We make some photo stops on the way, enjoy to solitude and the sounds of nature.

We arrive in Landmannalaugar that looks like an oasis with a natural hot baths in the middle of the most amazing mountain scenery. This is a volcanic zone with a mixture of colourful rhyolite stones and black obsidian lava stones. Landmannalaugar is called "the Pearl of the Central Highlands" and the hikers paradise. Walking around in Landmannalaugar is a feast of colour contrasts and the views are simply breathtaking. We recommend a relaxing bath in a natural hot stream – no locker rooms, changing done outside!
