HOTEL TINDASTÓLL, SAUÐÁRKRÓKUR
Welcome to the oldest hotel in Iceland where a relaxed and warm atmosphere
combined with a fine personal service, comes
as a complement to the beautiful,
adventurous and peaceful Skagafjörður district.
Hotel Tindastóll is dating back in
1884.
The building came in parts from Norway and it was assembled as a
storehouse in Hofsos between 1820 and 1829, moved later on to
Grafarós in 1833 and finally shipped over the fjord and reassembled
at its present location in Sauðárkrókur.
Hotel Tindastóll had been totally restored in year 2000 and has a capacity of ten rooms, seven double standard, one twin and two twin
deluxe all featuring double beds with danish linen, duvet covers, wardrobes,
mini bars, Tudor style desks, coffee makers, hair dryers, TV sets, trousers press
and private bathrooms. There is a ADSL Internet connection in every room and
the deluxe rooms also feature DVD Players.
Every room has its own shape color and name! Yes, the rooms are named after icons of the
Icelandic history: Hallgrimur Pétursson, Jón Arason, Gréttir Ásmundarsson etc. Mentioning
personalities, here at Hotel Tindastóll stayed Marlene Dietrich, the one who once was the
highest paid actress of her time. Her room today is called Guðriður Þorbjarnadottír.
At the lower level is located our lounge called Jarlstofa (The Earl's Chamber).
The walls are made of stones formed by the sea and the ceiling is supported by hard hewn
wooden beams. Jarlstofa still preserves the Hotel's original front door, the old fire place and
numerous artifacts illustrating the history of the building.
Today Jarlsstofa is a multipurpose area which can also be used for meetings and small
banquets.
On top of it all, to make your stay more pleasant, our hotel also features a beautiful hot tub
made of piled stones selected from the shores of Skagafjörður. The hot tub is filled with
running 39 Celsius degrees natural water.
