GJ-1107 SPA & NORTHERN LIGHTS (5 days / 4 nights)

Slow Travel & Wellness Tour

In Iceland you will experience an eco-friendly life style and you will find food for the body with healthy ingredients, quality water and clean air. You will find food for the soul with calmness of a landscape that is full of contrast and extremes at the same time. Glacial rivers, hot springs, black deserts with green oasis and clean blue lakes and rivers. Places full of peace and tranquility. In Iceland you will discover the energy of the elements: water, air, fire and earth. Basic things that are the core of life.

Iceland is a wellness country where water is bountiful. The abundance of water and geothermal energy enriches the land. This unique resource is present in myriad of forms; fresh springs, hot springs, flowing water, falling water, geothermal water, glacial water, oceanic water and in different states from steam, to liquid to glacial. During this trip you will experience wellness and nature with the therapeutic effect of thermal bathing. Water is the source of all life.

You will stay two nights at the Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel with free access to the Blue Lagoon and the hotel's gym. Included is a 30 minutes deep relaxing in-water massage using a massage oil that contains Blue Lagoon active ingredients and essential oils. Blue Lagoon massages provide you with the energy of the geothermal seawater and its active ingredients: minerals, silica and algae. With your rental car you are able to explore the Reykjanes Peninsula and visit hot springs, light houses, bird cliffs, dramatic sea shores, fishing villages, moon landscape, lava fields and several museums and local art work shops.

Two nights will be at Frost and Fire Guesthouse in Hveragerði, that is located on the banks of the river Varmá in a beautiful setting amidst bubbling hot springs. Guests can  take an invigorating swim in the 12-meter swimming pool, revitalize body and soul in the sauna, take a refreshing outdoor shower and then relax in jacuzzis ("hot pots") on the banks of the river. There are hot springs around the guesthouse which are used to heat the buildings, swimming pool and sauna all year round. It’s a unique experience to sit in a hot pot on the riverbank on a cold and starry winter’s night, or to swim in the pool after an invigorating walk with the occasional break in the sauna. And then guests can retire to warm and comfortable beds, fall asleep to the murmur of the river and can start the next day by bathing in a hot pool before exploring the region. A geothermal sauna is not only relaxing but softens the skin, relieves fatigue and stimulates the circulation.

Hveragerði is a small and friendly town in South Iceland, 45 km from Reykjavík and 90 km from Keflavík Airport. By Varmá and in Reykjadalur above the town there are hot springs where walkers and hikers can rest and bathe. There are many walking options in the village and surrounding valleys. If you like playing golf, there are several options in Hveragerði, South Iceland and Keflavík.

Also included in the Spa & Wellness Tour is a  mud bath – straight from Hveragerðis hot springs - located in the local health clinic. Deep heat helps relax muscles and relief’s rheumatism pain and pain in the muscle-skeletal system. Excellent for those with psoriasis or other skin problems. The time in the bath is 15 minutes, followed by 20 minutes’ relaxation. (Those with severe heart or lung problems, or are allergic to nickel, should not take a mud bath). For healthy eating we recommend a local restaurant specialized in earth-cooking or some of the nearby seashore restaurants with excellent fish and lobster dishes.

The Blue Lagoon Clinic and Frost & Fire Guesthouse are excellent locations to search for the magical northern lights. This is truly a wonderful program with well-selected accommodation and locations for a energizing wellness & northern lights program.

GJ-1107 SPA & NORTHERN LIGHTS (5 days / 4 nights)

Slow Travel & Wellness Tour

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND (23 km/15 miles)
Arrival and short drive to Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel where you will stay for two nights and enjoy complimentary admission to the Blue Lagoon and the hotel's own gym. We recommend an evening walk in the surrounding lava fields and checking out if the Northern Lights might be dancing in the sky.

Day 2: BLUE LAGOON & REYKJANES PENINSULA (about 60 km/38 miles)
Start your day with a 30 minute in-water massage at the Blue Lagoon (included in your package) and renew your relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air while relaxing in the warm geothermal seawater.
In the afternoon tour around Reykjanes peninsula and discover hot springs, light houses, dramatic sea shores, bird cliffs, fishing villages, moon landscapes and lava fields. Walk the bridge over two continents and visit some of the many local museums that are free of charge. Maybe you like to return to the Blue Lagoon before dinner, because it is probably the reason you selected this program. If  the night is clear, you might be lucky to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the heaven in dramatic shapes, colors, patterns and sizes.

Day 3: BLUE LAGOON-REYKJAVÍK-FISHING VILLAGES IN SOUTH ICELAND (about 150 km/93 miles)
After you healthy breakfast, soak one more time at the Blue Lagoon. From here it is only a 45 minutes drive to Reykjavik. Explore the city, if you like, for some time or continue directly to the small greenhouse town of Hveragerði in South Iceland. You will stay for two nights at the beautifully located Frost & Fire Guesthouse that features a geothermal swimming pool, several outdoor hot tubs, steam bath and relaxation room. We recommend visiting the seashore villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki with many old and colorful houses and known for good bird watching. In Hveragerði there are plenty of walking possibilities. In the later afternoon you are scheduled for mud bath – straight from Hveragerði's hot springs - located in the local health clinic.

Before you go to bed, find out if Northern Lights occur, also called Aurora Borealis, that are one of the most spectacular shows on earth and that can frequently be seen in Iceland from September through April on clear and crisp nights. White and green are usually the dominant colors but sometimes there are considerable color variations.

Day 4: GOLDEN CIRCLE & FONTANA STEAM BATH (about 200 km/124 miles)
Today travel to Thingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Gullfoss waterfall, widely known as the Golden Waterfall in the Hvitá river with a height of 34 meters. The spectacular sight attracts tourists and travelers  all year. Geysir geothermal fields contains a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools including the original geyser and Strokkur that erupts at 5-10 minutes intervals. In the later afternoon you are booked at the new thermal baths FONTANA in Laugarvatn, where healing geothermal heat simmers directly from the ground and the landscape is painted with beautiful mountain ranges. Laugarvatn FONTANA will be a highlight of any wellness retreat in Iceland where you find three geothermally heated baths, a sauna, a warm sand beach, and access to the pristine waters of Lake Laugarvatn. A visit to the open air baths at Laugarvatn FONTANA will also give you the opportunity to experience the ever-changing Icelandic weather as the thermal baths can be enjoyed all year around. In fact, wintertime makes the visit to the thermal baths an even more memorable experience. Later tonight, don't forget to watch out for the magical Northern Lights,  maybe after a nice lobster dinner at a nearby seashore restaurant, or while relaxing in the jacuzzis ("hot pots") on the banks of the river Varmá at Frost & Fire Guesthouse.
