SOUTH SHORE ADVENTURE

This tour is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. We drive over a lava plateau, descending onto the southern lowlands and pass through some of the prettiest countryside in Iceland with fields, farms and villages towards the Eyjafjalla and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers in South Iceland. We reach Seljalandsfoss, a graceful ribbon-like waterfall, which drops from an overhanging lava cliff. If you step carefully, you can walk behind it, but be prepared to get wet.

We continue to the impressive Skógafoss waterfall, that’s more than 60m high (197 ft) and belongs to the largest waterfalls in Iceland. We travel along the South coast of Iceland as far as Vík í Mýrdal that is a small charming village surrounded by beautiful high bird cliffs. In this area you can make a walk on the volcanic black sandy beach that is famous for its bird species and where sometimes even puffins can be seen. This location offers impressive rock formations and caves, spectacular high surf of the North Atlantic and one of the worlds most beautiful black lava beach. On the way to Reykjavík we visit at the tiny settlement of Skógar one of Iceland’s best Folk Museums. Old houses, some made of turf, are preserved in their original state and there is a vast collection of household items from the surrounding area. Among the momentous of this region’s past is one of the frail boats in which local fishermen once navigated the treacherous coast.

Highlights of the day are stunning views of glaciers, black lava sand coast lines and impressive rock formations.
