12 hours - Þjórsárdalur Valley, a place of stunningly colorful and diverse landscape, is one of Iceland’s most popular destinations. Mt. Hekla, Iceland's best known volcano is stands strong in the Þjórsárdalur valley. Landmannalaugar is a natural gem, hidden in the highlands of Iceland and offers some of the most surprising and memorable experiences. Take a hike in the most breathtaking scenery in Iceland and afterwards take a bath in the lukewarm hot spring stream. One of the best characteristics of this area, are the Rhyolite Mountains, with their multi-colored shapes and sizes. Some walking is required on this excursion. LANDMANNALAUGAR & SAGA VALLEY

To arrive in the area of Landmannalaugar we need to drive by the roots of the Mt. Hekla which is the most active volcano in Iceland. Hekla was believed to be the gateway to hell during the Middle Ages and the last eruptions were in February 2000. We pass the lava and pumice covered landscape that Mt. Hekla has created around itself the last thousands of years. We make some photo stops on the way, enjoy to solitude and the sounds of nature. We arrive in Landmannalaugar that looks like an oasis with a natural hot baths in the middle of the most amazing mountain scenery. This is a volcanic zone with a mixture of colourful rhyolite stones and black obsidian lava stones. Landmannalaugar is called “the Pearl of the Central Highlands” and the hikers paradise. Walking around in Landmannalaugar is a feast of colour contrasts and the views are simply breathtaking. We recommend a relaxing bath in a natural hot stream – no locker rooms, changing done outside! Picnic should be bought at your hotel or we stop at a shop on the way since there are no restaurant facilities or stores in Landmannalaugar. We stop at the beautiful waterfall Hjálparfoss in beautiful Thjórsárdalur with diverse landscapes. Last but not least we pass Hellisheiði mountain pass to get back to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city. Some walking is required on this excursion. Lunch and refreshments are not included. Good walking boots needed. We recommend to bring along bathing suit, towel, picnic lunch and drinks.
