DOLPHIN & WHALE WATCHING TOURS

FROM REYKJAVIK

Take part in an adventure at sea with an unforgettable trip into the world of whales and sea birds. Conveniently located in Reykjavík’s old harbor, a three hour journey can bring you up close to whales in their natural habitat. The various types of whales commonly sighted include minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises and the popular humpback whales. We will be accompanied by sea birds such as gannets, puffins, guillemots, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns, and many more. Our trips take us past several islands inhabited by colonies of puffin – a great photo opportunity! To make the trip even more comfortable, we provide our passengers with warm, floatable overalls and raincoats. For safety reasons, all children under 12 years of age are required to wear life jackets during the tour. To ensure that the animals are not disturbed by our presence, we sail at a constant speed towards the whales’ habitat. As a result, a variety of species, from humpback whales to tiny porpoises, often surface within a few feet of the boat!

We have over 10 years of experience in whale watching and have been rewarded for excellence. We are a leader in marine and environmental preservation. Our services and facilities include as following

“A must whilst you are there”
Elding Whale Watching sprakity 11 contributions UK Oct 15, 2009
Its a must to do this trip. The staff are very knowledgable and seem geuinely pleased when they spot one of the creatures! We saw some minke whales and dolphins. The dolphins were right up close to the boat. The whales didn't come as close but this is to be expected they are wild animals after all!!! I would also recommend a glass of whale punch - hot chocolate with a double rum. It warmed us up just in time for sailing. “Nature is impossible to predict - thank God”

It's really funny to read comments. Yes - Minke Whales in the wild don't show and jump by blowing a whistle but Elding has a really great trip and a great at spotting dolphins, whales, gannets and other wild creatures. Do go if you're in the area. There may be better places around the world, but it's really enjoyable anyway.

“We Got Very Close to a Humpback Whale!”
Elding Whale Watching wilkintj 135 contributions Richland, Michigan Jun 6, 2009
My wife and I took a spur of the moment trip with Elding while in Iceland. Once in R.vik we looked through the guide book and noticed they offered a 1700 whale watching trip. We had about 1/2 hr before the trip started so we high tailed it over there and were able to get on board. It was about a 3 hr trip. For the first 2 hours we did nothing but bounce around on the upper deck looking for a whale. My wife started to feel seasick. Once the guide found one, we went straight for it and were able to pull up pretty close and we followed alongside the whale for a bit and got to see it pretty well. We were excited to see a wild animal so close. The guide on the boat was very friendly. The boat captain was even excited to see the whale. He came out and watched it with the rest of us and I could see the excitement on his face. That made me feel like they really cared about what they were doing - not just ferrying people around.
