REYKJANES PENINSULA
After leaving the capital we head to the Reykjanes peninsula where you can see the mid Atlantic ridge rises from the ocean. This is where the tectonic plates of Europe and America are slowly drifting apart by about 1 cm a year. More than half of the peninsula is covered with lava fields, some of which are only a few hundred years old. We head for the old lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula. This is a magnificent area with rich bird life in the summer. From there we continue through the lava fields to the nearby fishing village of Grindavík. Our next stop is at The Blue Lagoon where you have three different options; a visit to The Blue Lagoon, transfer to Keflavík Airport or return back to Reykjavík according to the transfer schedule below.
Highlights:
* Mid Atlantic Ridge
* Coast line of Reykjanes Peninsula
* Lava Fields
* Lighthouse (pass by)

A visit to the Blue Lagoon Iceland geothermal spa is an important part of your stay in Iceland. Guests renew their relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air while relaxing in the warm geothermal seawater. It is no surprise that the readers of “Conde Nast Traveller” voted Blue Lagoon as the best medical spa worldwide. For five consecutive years Blue Lagoon has been awarded the Blue Flag environmental recognition granted to natural beaches and marinas.
The water’s temperature is 37-39°C / 98-102°F. The lagoon holds six million liters of geothermal seawater, which is renewed every 40 hours. Regular sampling shows that “common” bacteria do not thrive in this ecosystem, thus additional cleansers such as chlorine are not needed. The Blue Lagoon is located in a dramatic lava field 45 minutes drive from Reykjavik and about 20 minutes drive from Keflavik airport.
Transfers from the Lagoon to Reykjavik are available at 12:00, 15:00, 17:15, 19:00 and 21:00

General Information:
Reykjanes is a peninsula and a volcanic system situated at the south-western end of Iceland, near the capital of Reykjavík. The peninsula is marked by active volcanism under its surface, and large lava fields, allowing little vegetation. There are numerous hot springs and sulphur springs in the southern half of the peninsula, around the Kleifarvatn lake and the Krýsuvík geothermal area (this tour is not going there). There is also a geothermal power station at Svartsengi. Near the power station a swimming lagoon has been installed using the hot and mineralized water coming down from the power station; it is known as the "Blue Lagoon" (Bláa Lónið).
The Leif the Lucky Bridge spans the Álfagjá rift valley (60 feet wide and 20 feet (6.1 m) deep) near Grindavik, which marks the boundary of the Eurasian and North American continental tectonic plates. It was built in 2002 and named in honor of Icelandic explorer Leif Eriksson who travelled from Europe to America 500 years before Columbus.
Some fishing towns, such as Grindavík and Njarðvík are situated on the peninsula as well as the town Keflavík, the site of the Keflavík International Airport and the Leifur Eriksson Air Terminal and the former American military base.
