Whale Watching Express
Our whale watching boat, Rósin (The Rose), offers an absolute innovation in whale watching adventures in Iceland. The boat is brand-new, it was built the winter of 2009/2010, and is the fastest and most luxurious whale watching boat in the country. The boat is both safe and quiet, as well as being equipped with the latest technology. The Rose is licensed for 75 passengers and is extremely well organized in terms of passenger comfort, both on the inside and outside on the decks.
The whale watching tours start from the Reykjavik Old Harbour and on The Rose we sail past the puffin islands Akurey and Lundey, inhabited by thousands of puffins. From there it takes only a short time to get to where the whales are. In the whale watching tours you´ll see whales in their natural environment, quite up close and personal. The friendly guides and captain point out where to spot the whales on the surface of the sea and give you interesting information about the different kinds of whales you can expect to see. It is safe to name the trip Whale Watching Express as The Rose is quite a fast cruiser, taking less time to reach the adventure out to the whales. Therefore this whale watching adventures only take 2 - 2 ½ hours. Our passengers get the same amount of time visiting the whales as in other tours, all while enjoying the sailing, the beautiful scenery and personal service. Whale Watching Express
Whales: In the Whale Watching Express Tours you can expect to see Minke Whales, Harbour Porpoises, White-beaked Dolphins and Humpback Whales. Killer Whales and Bone-Sharks are sometimes spotted as well.
Departure Location: Whale Watching Express Tours operate from The Old Harbour of Reykjavík, only a 5 minute walk from the city center.
Tour departures: Whale Watching Express operates on schedule from 01 April – 31 October. April and October departures at 10:00. May and September departures at 10:00 and 14:00. June, July and August departures at 10:00, 14:00 and 17:00. Evening Whale Watching is also offered at 20:00 from 15 July – 15 August.
Tour Pick-up: FREE PICK-UP is included in the Greater Reykjavik Area, 20-40 minutes before the departure of the Whale Watching Excursion.
Tour duration: Whale Watching Express Tours only take 2 – 2 ½ hours.
Clothing & Comfort: For our passengers comfort we provide warm overalls. Warm clothes are also recommended, such as scarves and gloves. Our boat, The Rose, also offers a warm and cozy inside area with large windows for viewing where we offer free coffee, tea and hot chocolate and sell light refreshment in our on-board café.
Guides: Whale Watching Express Tours have skillful guides who care about the environment. They start by going over all safety on board. After that they tell you all about the whales that you can expect to see plus some interesting facts and fun stories. When we stop by the Puffin Islands the guides also tell you facts about the Puffins and other seabirds we see on Faxafloi Bay.
Season: Whale Watching Express Tours operate on schedule from April 1 – October 31. (See tour departures for more info).
Location of tour: We sail out to Faxafloi Bay in search for the whales. It only takes Whale Watching Express Tours 20 minutes to get to where the whales are because of the cruising speed of our Whale watching boat, The Rose. Either on our way out to see the whales or on the way back we stop by Akurey or Lundey to visit the Puffins. The Puffins nest here every summer from May 01 – August 20. The Rose cruises at quite a speed, giving us a larger searching area and an opportunity to go further to look for the whales when they are not spotted at the regular viewing area.
