What also meets the eye
It has to be said that springtime in Tasiilaq not only brings life to the beautiful arctic flowers. Actually, before you see the flowers we have a blooming period for old litter. When the snow starts melting fast in April it also reveals litter accumulated during wintertime. As soon as the snow has melted the litter is collected. It’s a problem, and Ammassalik Municipality is currently working on a recycling solution. On paydays and weekends you might see someone who are under the influence of alcohol in Tasiilaq. However, people are friendly and tourists are very appreciated, so if you should be contacted by a person in party-mode, it’ll never be in an aggressive way. If you don’t feel up for a long discussion in broken English, just smile and walk on.
