Guided Tour in Kulusuk:
The tour guide is awaiting you at Kulusuk airport. Tours are guided in English only. It is a 45-60 minutes walk from the airport to Kulusuk village. No transportation is available. Therefore you must be reasonably fit to master the walk partly through snow and difficult terrain. We highly recommend to bring good walking shoes along and a daybag with something to drink (can be bought in the duty free store at Reykjavik airport after you pass security check) and a picnic lunch. or snacks. It is not always possible to buy food & beverage at the local supermarket in Kulusuk. Weather permitting, we’ll be treated to kayaking demonstrations and an ancient drum dance reflective of the indigenous culture. You stay about 4,5 hours in Kulusuk.
Some extra notes and what also meets the eye:
It has to be said that springtime in Kulusuk not only brings life to the beautiful arctic flowers. Actually, before you see the flowers we have a blooming period for old litter. When the snow starts melting fast in April it also reveals litter accumulated during wintertime. As soon as the snow has melted the litter is collected. It’s a problem, and Ammassalik Municipality is currently working on a recycling solution. On paydays and weekends you might see someone who are under the influence of alcohol in Kulusuk. However, people are friendly and tourists are very appreciated, so if you should be contacted by a person in party-mode, it’ll never be in an aggressive way. If you don’t feel up for a long discussion in broken English, just smile and walk on.
The only public toilet facilities in Kulusuk are in the church. Therefore we highly recommend using the toilet facilities during the flight and at Kulusuk airport. There might be a boat tour available between Kulusuk village and Kulusuk airport. According to our latest information, the company has no proper insurance and fees can only be paid in cash and therefore should you decide to join the boat tour it will be on your own responsibility. This boat tour cannot be booked in advance.
