Culture Night

Reykjavík had been crowded during its largest cultural festival, Culture Night, held Saturday 21 August. The Reykjavík Jazz Festival and the Reykjavík Marathon also coincided with Culture Night so there were only very few excuses for people in Reykjavík to be bored. The festival was held for the 15th time this year and was packed with fun events for the whole family, from morning till night.
Reykjavík city centre was buzzing with an extraordinary number of colourful events, including highlights such pop concerts and all sorts of weird and wonderful smaller events such as a Aikikai demonstration, magic and illusions, opera, poetry, folk songs, photography, kids stuff, the the art of angling and much more. This year's theme was "The Streets of Music" as one of the festival highlights were 57 choirs with 1800 singers that visited Reykjavík for this years Culture Night. The choirs have been singing on every street corner (or so we felt) to light up the spirit of the guests of the Festival. The programme ended as usual with a fantastic fireworks display at 23:00 down by Reykjavík harbour. Reykjavík Culture Night is a free event. Reykjavík Jazz Festival and the Reykjavík Marathon also coincided with Culture Night this year, so there was plenty of jazz music and running on offer on Culture Night, too. We hope to see you in Reykjavik for the 2011 Culture Night.
