Best Marketing Award

The Iceland Convention and Incentive Bureau won the ICCA Best Marketing Award. The winner was announced during today's closing session at the 49th ICCA Congress in Hyderabad, India. "How can you turn a volcanic eruption and a Europe-wide no-fly zone into a marketing success story?" That was the challenge that Iceland faced this year.

Warmest Summer Ever in Iceland’s Capital

The average temperature of the three summer months, June, July and August, in Reykjavík this year was 12.2°C (54°F), which makes this the warmest summer in the capital since temperatures were first recorded in 1871, according to meteorologist Trausti Jónsson.

Culture Night

Reykjavík had been crowded during its largest cultural festival, Culture Night, held Saturday 21 August. The Reykjavík Jazz Festival and the Reykjavík Marathon also coincided with Culture Night. The festival was held for the 15th time this year and was packed with fun events for the whole family, from morning till night.

Lonely Planet: Iceland Top Tavel Destination 2010

Leading global travel guide, Lonely Planet recently announced Iceland as a top summer travel destination for August. Lonely Planet is encouraging travellers to visit the land of fire and ice as ‘there really has never been a better time’ to go.

Approximately 320,000 residents of Iceland, government bodies and various travel companies, such as Icelandair, left online messages of support on Thursday 3rd June with the purpose of encouraging visitors to experience Iceland for themselves.

A week after Iceland’s local elections, the capital city has a new mayor – and as expected it is comedian and head of the Best Party, Jon Gnarr.

Iceland Airwaves - dates, bands and tickets!

The dates for Iceland Airwaves 2010 are now confirmed. The festival will take place 13-17 October 2010 at various venues around down town Reykjavik! The first set of bands is confirmed as well.
